While I spent some time in one of my favourite cities in the world, New York City. I had an opportunity to check out Visvim’s preview of their F/W 2018 collection. Here I got my first look at Hiroki Nakamura’s latest designs and as usual he consistently delivers quality craftsmanship, ancient fabrics, and brilliant textile dyeing techniques with each collection. Its safe to say that Hiroki’s attentiveness to detailing goes unmatched, which in my opinion is due to his great eye on sourcing out not only forgotten textiles. But also bring back to life the forgotten techniques when processing ancient textiles giving a story and a hint of character to each piece individually. Hiroki Nakamura showcases his bread and butter with blue denim jackets as well as coats and robes inspired by traditional Japanese garb, paired with loose denim and pants of various materials. Standouts include a bomber jacket with “PEERLESS” printed on the backas well as a multicoloured kimono-style jacket constructed from washi, a type of paper made by hand using traditional techniques.
